Affirming Therapy for
the Shuswap Region
Welcome! If you’re an LGBTQ2SIA+ resident of the Shuswap, you’ve come to the right place!
Essie's Place, in partnership with Our Landing Place, is thrilled to be able to offer a funded mental health services pilot to the Shuswap's LGBTQ2SIA+ community members beginning November 2022. Our goal is to serve the community as best we can. As such, we anticipate some wait times which we endeavour to keep as short as possible.
Below you will find information about the program as well as a self-referral application form.
Who can access these services?
LGBTQ2SIA+ identified individuals, couples & partners, and families ages 12+ who currently live in the Shuswap Region.
How many sessions does each person receive?
Each successful applicant will be allotted up to a maximum of 6 sessions to be used within a 6 week period. Once you have used your sessions, you will have the opportunity to apply for additional sessions (based on availability).
In order to minimize wait times and serve as many community members as possible, we cannot guarantee additional sessions.
Do I get a say in who my therapist is?
Absolutely! You deserve autonomy and agency in your mental health journey, and that begins with choosing your therapist.
You will be offered a free 15-minute consultation to ensure you feel the therapist is a good fit before starting any sessions.
We will let you know which therapists are available once you begin your intake.
What happens after I apply?
As soon as we receive your application you will be added to the wait list. We aim to keep wait times under 4 weeks, and will contact you as soon as one of the therapists you have selected to work with has an available spot.
From there, you will be offered a free consultation with a therapist for you to decide if you want to work with them. If you feel it’s a good fit, you and the therapist will schedule your sessions and begin your journey together.
How long will this funding be available for?
This is a pilot project with funding available until the end of February 2023. Our hope is to renew the funding, and in order to do that we need you, the community, to utilize the program as much as possible.
